wraps per inch charthow to accurately substitute knitting yarns worldwide.Easily find the yarn to suit your knitting pattern or the pattern to match your yarn.Using a free wpi gauge tool makes yarn substitution more accurate than relying on the International symbol or ball band alone, which I'm sure you will have noticed doesn't always give you the information you really need. In addition to plys and international symbols from 2008 onwards we are including WPI gauges (and links to this page) within our knitting and knit-to-felt patterns, this addition will make it easy for you to substitute yarns and achieve perfect results - everytime.
Here's our constantly updated

![]() Here are a couple of thoughts worth noting :
1. Wool and acrylic rarely have the same rating despite the ball band's indication.
For instance when you look at the wraps per inch chart you'll see the variety.
2. Also notice from the wraps per inch chart the variety of stitch counts offered by the manufacturers on their ball bands.
