Summer knitting
bring it on...we’re ready......

Summer knitting is different. Different yarns, different colours different patterns.

It may be summer and the weather may be hot - and getting hotter - but summer isn't the time to put away your knitting needles - it’s the time to become inspired all over again by the new range of knitting cottons, bamboo yarns and other exotic lightweight blends.

And if you’re anything like me you can’t wait to sit on a shady veranda in the fresh air, sipping a cool drink, listening to birdsong while you relax and knit away....

Yes, summer is the time to swap cuddly knitting wool for cool cotton knitting yarns, bamboo yarns and blends, yarn by katia or the new Lana Grossa mixes.

Summer knitting patterns

This is the perfect time of year to knit yourself a new beach bag, make a knitted evening purse or eco friendly shopping bag .

What about something to wear? Use bamboo yarn to make this summer hat . A cool knitted scarf is a great way to add a splash of color and flair to your summer outfit.

And let’s not forget socks, just because the temperature rises we don’t stop making socks, anyone who has worn sneakers or joggers in summer without socks knows why!!!

We still use our favourite sock patterns, just make them a little shorter, choosing a cooler, more absorbent yarn.

One of our favourite yarns for summer sock knitting at the moment is “Harmony” from Bendigo Woollen Mills. You can order securely from them online - we do.

Harmony is mostly cotton, with a little wool and a small amount of lycra to give it a wonderful stretchy quality. We make around 3 pairs of ladies summer height socks from 1 x 200g ball - very economical.

Try this sock pattern yourself, handmade sox fit better and are far more comfortable than the normal cotton variety you buy.

I hope I’m convincing you not to put away your needles during the warmer months. Instead take advantage of all the gorgeous new summer knitting cottons and yarn blends now readily available.
