Knitted shoulder bag pattern
This knitted shoulder bag is named “chocolate sparkles” for it’s gorgeous deep chocolate colour and lovely sparkles woven into the yarn - making it glitter and shimmer under the evenings lights. |
It has a beautiful soft tactile feel adding the perfect finishing touch to a casual evening outfit.
|
The long strap (which can be knitted to your preferred length) means you don’t need to leave your purse unattended when you mix and mingle - a dangerous habit in this day and age.. |
Unfortunately only a studio photograph could do justice to the yarn, but I hope you can see the sparkles ( the white dots in the close-up photo).

This knitted shoulder bag design is purposely simple - letting the yarn speak for itself - making the knitting pattern suit beginners onward. The finished measurement are : 24cms (9.5 ins) wide x 20cms (8 ins) high not including the strap, which as I mentioned earlier you can adjust to your preferred length. You can either knit the shoulder bag on a smaller than suggested needle (which we often do with purse patterns) giving a firm finish which doesn’t need lining to keep it’s shape. Or do as we did and keep the yarn’s lovely soft and flowing feel, by using my recommended needle size, then lining the shoulderbag with chocolate brown lining material and including either a hidden press stud or a magnetic closure for security. You’ll find the how-to’s in the pattern. The yarn we used was Homemaker Lifestyles “Moonlight”, which available in Australia and New Zealand through K-Mart. Other locations may need to look around a little. Or substitute whatever is available in your location - simply choose a soft hairy yarn with a thick core and sparkly fleck. You'll need 3 balls (50g each)yarn with ball band tension of 16st x 25rows = 5mm needles over stocking stitch. Note : We strongly suggest you locate a suitable yarn before purchasing this pattern. Experienced knitters will roar through this pattern, but if you are relatively new to knitted purse making you will appreciate the included links to free how-to instructions for all facets of the pattern and its “finishing off” techniques.
