Although we've become used to disposable cloths over recent years you simply can't beat the feel and usability of the hand knitted variety.
This free pattern is perfect for a beginner knitter.
It's a quick and easy pattern and the knitting cotton yarn is readily available from your local store, supermarket, craft supplier or ebay.
Finished size 21cms (8ins) square
Materials1 ball 4 ply cotton (1 ball will make several dishcloths)
1 pair 4.5mm (US #7, UK # 7) standard knitting needles
Tapestry or wool needle
Tension/gauge: 20 sts to 10 cm (approx. 4 ins) in pattern

Instructions
Using 4.5 mm needles cast on 50 sts. 1st and 2nd rows: - Knit 3rd and 4th rows: - Knit 2, * k1, p1, repeat fromm * to last 2 sts, k2. Repeat rows 1-4 twice. (8 rows in total)
9th and 10th rows: - knit 11th and 12th rows: - repeat row 3 and 4. 13th and 14th rows: - repeat row 3 and 4. Repeat rows 9 - 14, 6 times, then rows 1 to 4 twice. Repeat rows 1 and 2 once. Cast off (bind off) knitwise
To finish
Weave in loose ends using tapestry or wool needle.
