If your girls are too small to handle child size knitting needles or your boys think "knitting is for girls" french-knitting (spool or cotton reel knitting) is perfect .

It's easy to learn (10 minutes for adults, less than 1/2 hour for kids), and won't cost you an arm and a leg...

Tools and equipment

Here's what you'll need to begin....

ball of yarn, thin string or similar
Knitting Nancy, knitting dolly or cotton reel if you want to make your own ( use our how-to)
french knit instructions
most important of all ....your own children's imagination.....ask them what they would like to make...then share their passion.

but what about you - an adult - what could you use this yarn craft for ?

For adults

Remember I said earlier use it yourself we do.....

well here's what we use this technique for...

we create bag handles... as knitting pattern designers we create a lot of knitted and knit-to-felt bags, totes and purses. Some feature purchased handles but many utilize i-cord handles.

Why?

Frequently a purchased handle is simply the wrong color or style and often doubles the finished cost of the project. Whereas an i-cord style handle doesn't detract from the purse's style and stitch pattern.

now try and imagine the same item with a brown cane handle, clear plastic strap or something similar.... bearing in mind, as I said earlier, purchased handles can double the cost of your finished project..which would you choose?
