Don't worry if you're not in Australia or close to a Spotlight store - there's a load of this type of yarn on the market (look in the right hand column for a list of alternatives).

We've alternated the novelty yarn with a standard, and readily available 8ply/dk/3 yarn. Choose either wool or acrylic - they work equally well.

You'll really enjoy knitting this hat pattern. If you're experienced you'll finish in one or two evenings. Newish knitters will obviously take longer but will still find the pattern itself easy.

• 1 pair 4mm (US 6, UK 8) knitting needles
• 50g (1.75oz) standard 8ply/dk/light worsted / 3 knitting wool or yarn
• 50g (1.75oz) funky fur type yarn
