cable knit scarf pattern

Our cable knit scarf pattern is an easy pattern for knitters with a little experience and provides a great introduction to cable knitting.

You'll notice the bands of cables are separated by an interesting bar detailed panels - avoids the boredom that can creep in when working a single long cable.......

Knit the short version with a slit (show in the photograph) or a longer wrap-around-the-neck version, either way you'll thoroughly enjoy working this pattern.

The scarf you see below was designed for, and knitted in readily available, 8ply / dk / 3 / light worsted yarn. No matter where you reside you'll be able to source a suitable, cost effective yarn you'll be happy with.

Helpful hint

This scarf pattern is knitted using a pair of regular straight knitting needles

pair of knitting needles

and a cable needle of matching size.

Don't own a cable needle ?

Not a problem, as a designer I frequently have several projects on the go at once - meaning my cable needles aren't always handy.

I overcome this by using a tooth-pick instead. ...in fact a toothpick is frequently more convenient than a traditional cable needle - it's shorter, less slippery than a metal cable needle therefore less likely to fall out of your knitting.

I should clarify...when I say toothpick I mean the rounded smooth toothpick, not the cheaper rough edged squarer version.
